Project Athletes

I am happy that I stumbled upon Project Athletes while i have been here in Champaign. It has always been easy to see myself working with kids High School and College age but I don't think I ever saw myself working with Middle School kids. Middle School is where kids begin to define themselves as individuals, as a leader or a follower. I see these kids and i try to speculate their future, who will be the star athletes or the popular kids and how they will interact with each other socially in High School and beyond. When you do this you realize something, as advanced as some kids may today because of technology, one thing is the same, and that’s that kids are 11, 12, and 13 years old. They are all silly, immature and act as if they know more then they do. They are just kids, probably thinking about the same things that i was thinking about when i was that age but today instead of Pokemon they have Fortnite.

For me Project Athletes was a perfect opportunity of gain some experience in the personal training field, a field that is a part of 22owl. In this, my first official training gig, i learned a lot. Some because of my own research but most from just being with the kids and listening to them, seeing what gets them excited and willing to participate. Once i found drills that worked I was able to branch off of those core drills and make each day a new experience while doing something that I know would keep their attention as best as it could be kept. One thing i found to be successful was testing them and keeping a record of drills like the 40 yard dash or how many push-ups they can do in a row. Something that they can work towards long after the program is over. I even designed cards so they would have something to remember the program by. Hopefully when they are the age I am now it will be something that they can look back at and remember the “care-free” life as a child

I hope that what i found while working with project athletes will benefit all clients that i have in the Future and that I always remember this as my first official time.
