Reading this book was a direct result of me attempting to follow through with the things that I say that I am going to do. Within the last year I was watching a lot of YouTube on The Roots which led to a listening binge where I found plenty of songs I enjoyed, and could add to playlist, that I had never given any time before. But aside from that it also led me to Amazon.com where I planned to buy Questlove's newest book Creative Quest. A Book on creativity from a musician that I can relate to and have always been a fan of. Seemed like a perfect fit. Only the book sat in my "wish list" for months until a decision to spend more spare time reading led me to getting a library card. Now that the excuse of not having the money to buy the book online was no longer in the way I was able to remove the book off of my Amazon wish list and check it out from my local library.
The book took me through his life stories and encounters all the while inspiring me to harness my own creative energies to be able to tell my own. It teaches you to "be a tourist" in you creative journey, allow others and other perspectives to influence you and allow you to think, knowing you can always return back to your own convictions. He states that, "Creativity is not about letting everything in, but refusing to keep things out."

The goal of any creative is to take ideas from the head and bring them to life. After reading this book I was inspired to revamp my creative process and bring new energy to the projects that I have been working on. I decided to take some tips from the book and begin my process by first becoming a curator. At first it seemed like such a simple task, busy work, but it truly was inspirational. As i was looking back at old videos I had made in high school and college and old assignments and photos taken i was re-energized by the nostalgia and motivated to create new memories. From here on out I will attempt to keep my creative process completely organized
Along with organization, distractions are another part of my creative process that has been stirred by this book. I have taught myself that distractions are limiting and show weakness. But I have learned that distractions are just as much of the process as any other step and needs to be fulfilled. Allow yourself to be distracted, otherwise, it will always remain. Throughout the chapter, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", Boredom is mentioned in this same tone as distractions. How allowing yourself to be bored can often spark creativity, sometimes it can be just what you need. Creativity is an organic blend of boredom and distractions, that high of being able to share and relate to others in the world in your most unique way possible.
This book aided me in my journey to show my creativity to the world. Gifted me different ways to handle lapses when coming up with ideas with stories about D'angelo, it also taught me about the "train" and how you must understand that creativity can be competitive so to always stay on your shit and not get too comfortable. My creative process is forever changed for the better as a result of this book so for that I am glad i read it, and glad that it was my first book on my path to spend more spare time reading. it wont be difficult as long as they are books i actually enjoy reading like this one
